Itinerary
Arrive in Iquitos and go on a private transfer to Nauta, making a special visit to the Islas de los Monos along the way. After interacting with the playful residents of Monkey Island, continue your journey with a scenic 5-hour boat ride along the Amazon River to the Tamshiacu Yanayacu Reserve. Settle into the base camp, where you’ll spend your first night surrounded by the enchanting sounds of the jungle.
Post-breakfast, go on a thrilling 3-hour trek to Yarina Lake, spotting diverse wildlife from monkeys, snakes and exotic birds. On this day you will learn survival techniques like sourcing water from vines and understanding the uses of medicinal plants.
Upon arriving at the lake, you will engage in practical skills training, starting with foraging for local edible plants and fruits as part of your sustenance learning. Following this, your guide will instruct you on how to construct natural weapons including spears, harpoons, and blowguns, essential for hunting and securing your food. You will spend two days at the lake, continuing to develop and apply these survival techniques.

Spend the day enhancing your survival skills under expert guidance in the dense foliage surrounding Lake Yarina. Absorb valuable lessons in self-sufficiency as you prepare to spend another night camping by the lakeside.

Start your day with breakfast by Lake Yarina, surrounded by tranquil nature. Next, your guide will assist you in locating balsa wood, which you’ll use to construct a raft for lake crossing. Once your raft is ready you can start testing it on the water! The guide will also teach you how to catch fish like a local.

Post-breakfast, go on a 4-hour trek through vibrant Amazonian landscapes to reach the secluded Tahuayo River. You will set up camp by the river and enjoy a tranquil night camping by the river.

Today, you’ll have the opportunity to meet local tribes, observe their hunting techniques, sample traditional dishes, and learn about their daily life. If the tribes find you respectful and keen, they might invite you to join them on a hunting excursion. In the evening, you’ll prepare and enjoy a meal by the riverbank before setting up camp for the night.

Depart after breakfast, retracing your steps through the Amazon back to Lake Yarina. Continue learning about the jungle’s natural remedies and wildlife as you prepare for your final night in the wilderness.
After breakfast at Lake Yarina, trek back to basecamp. A boat ride takes you to Nauta, followed by a transfer to Iquitos, marking the end of your Amazon survival adventure.

This intense program plunges you deep into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, where you’ll rely on your instincts, newly acquired survival skills, and the wisdom of seasoned indigenous and military instructors to navigate and thrive. Participants will gain practical knowledge and skills that are crucial not only for survival but also for thriving in adverse conditions.
Key learnings include:
- Site Selection and Shelter Building: Understand how to assess the suitability of a location based on soil, drainage, and resources to construct a resilient shelter using local materials like Yarina palm fronds for waterproofing.
- Fire Making and Wood Recognition: Master the techniques to start and maintain a fire in wet conditions using naturally water-resistant woods and resins, such as those from the capal tree, essential for warmth and food preparation.
- Water and Food Procurement: Learn sophisticated methods to obtain clean, safe drinking water using natural filters like cat’s claw wood and unripe Yarina palm fruits, and discover sustainable food sources in the jungle, including palm hearts, fruits, and fish stunned using traditional practices.
- Raft Building and Navigation: Acquire skills to construct a sturdy raft using balsa wood and tamshi vines, enabling safe and efficient river navigation—a critical skill for exploring and exiting dense jungle terrains.
- Natural Repellents and Weapons Crafting: Develop knowledge to utilize jungle resources like Ayahuma fruits for mosquito repellence and craft natural weapons such as spears and blowguns for protection and hunting.

In the dense Amazon, learning to construct a sturdy shelter is crucial for protection against the elements and wildlife. Participants will use natural materials found in the jungle, guided by experts to design and build their own survival haven, ensuring safety and comfort in the heart of the wilderness.
Jungle Navigation
Navigating the complex and often disorienting terrain of the Amazon is a key focus of the survival challenge. Participants will master the use of traditional and improvised navigation tools, learning to read the jungle’s subtle signs to find their way through the dense undergrowth and avoid getting lost.
Water Sourcing
